Purpose

Report for the determination of new speed
limits in Garioch

Content

The Committee agreed to:-
 

1.         approve
the commencement of the statutory procedures for the making of
“The Aberdeenshire Council (Garioch) (Amendments) (Speed
Limits) Order 2025” shown within Appendix 1 in this report
with the addition of a reduction of speed limit for Garlogie B9119 from 40 mph to 30 mph for the same
location and distance as shown on the map on Page 84 of the
report;
 

2.         approve
in principle the subsequent making of The Aberdeenshire Council
(Garioch) (Amendments) (Speed Limits) Order 2025 where no valid
objections are received or where any received are resolved and
withdrawn;
 

3.         note the
speed limits which do not meet Aberdeenshire Council’s Speed
Limits Policy, shown within Appendix 2 and 2a of this report;

 

4.         to
promote the following speed limit change, that is against policy,
to Infrastructure Services Committee for consideration as a
departure from policy for the reasons provided:-

 

a)        
Keithhall B993 – propose
extension of 40mph speed limit for entirety of distance shown on
map on Page 82 in order to slow traffic down before the turn off to
the school noting that there are quite a number of trees in that
location and poor visibility;
 

5.         approve
the commencement of the statutory procedure for the making of The
Aberdeenshire Council (Garioch) (Burghmuir Drive, Inverurie Revocation) Order 2025
shown in additional Appendix 4; 

 

6.         approve
in principle the subsequent making of The Aberdeenshire Council
(Garioch)(Burghmuir Drive, Inverurie
Revocation) Order 2025 shown in additional Appendix 4, where no
valid objections are received or where any received are resolved
and withdrawn; 
 

7.         request
that Officers report back, to the next meeting of Garioch Area
Committee, fully assessed proposals relating to Sauchen to Cluny
(Appendix 2a) as follows:-

 

a)         extend
30 mph limit to take in the entirety of Margaret Allan Grove,
Sauchen;

 

b)         reduce
the speed on the road between Cluny and Sauchen to 40 mph;

 

c)         make the
20 mph limit at the school a permanent speed limit;
 

8.         request
that Officers give consideration to the provision of warning signs
relating to pedestrians on the C96C Inverurie to Bourtie road;
 

9.         request
that Active Travel Officers provide a briefing note updating the
Committee on the Shared Spaces/Green Route pilot project; and
 

10.      
request that Officers check the speed limits on A947 when entering
Newmachar from Aberdeen City to check whether the agreed limits
accord with the signage in place or the information within the plan
on Page 90.
