Purpose

The Climate Change Targets Bill Call for Views
opened on 5 July 2024 with a closing date for responses by 16
August 2024. It follows the Scottish Government announcement that
it will introduce legislation to amend its approach to setting
targets for carbon emission reduction. The call for views is based
on the intention of the Scottish Government to move to a system of
5-yearly carbon budgets and away from a system of annual targets.
It also highlights that the legislation is likely to change the
date by which the next Climate Change Plan will be published. This
report presents the Aberdeenshire Council response to the Call for
Views provided by officers from the Sustainability and Climate
Change team with input from the Chair, Vice Chair and Opposition
Spokesperson for the Sustainability Committee.
