This reports sets out the Aberdeenshire
guidelines for mothballing a school.

McAllister that the mothballing of a school should be a
strategic decision and not an operational one, and that the
Committee recommend that the Council amend the Scheme of
Governance to remove the operational power and that mothballing
decisions should lie with Education and Children’s Services
and that the protocol would need to be revised should the decision
maker be altered.
