Content
To enter into the contract to provide stray
dog provision to Arun District Council for a further three years
from 21st October 2025 with an option to extend for one year.
Reasons for the decision
The income generated from this service plays a
crucial role in offsetting the operational costs incurred by both
Adur and Worthing Councils. This financial contribution is vital in
making the provision of this essential service more viable and
sustainable in the long term, ensuring that the councils can
continue to provide effective support for stray dogs within their
respective areas. By generating revenue, the service reduces the
financial burden on local taxpayers and allows for resources to be
allocated efficiently across other council services.
Alternative options considered
No other options were considered necessary for
this decision. The current contract with Arun District Council has
proven to be effective and efficient in providing stray dog
services. Renewing this contract ensures continuity of service,
maintains established operational procedures, and leverages
existing expertise, thereby avoiding the disruptions and potential
increased costs associated with seeking alternative providers or
bringing the service in-house.
