 The Leader of the Council:

Approves the sale and transfer of
the area which is owned by Adur District Council within Southwick
Beach, together with the associated assets listed in Section 3
below on the terms set out in Exempt Appendix 1.
Delegates authority to the Assistant
Director for Place & Economy to execute the Sale Contract,
Transfer and any ancillary document required to complete the sale
of the land to the Shoreham Port Authority, providing that the
documents are completed on the terms set out in Exempt Appendix
1.

Reasons for the decision

The sale will remove from the council’s
budget, now and into the future, the costs of coastal defence of
this section of the beach whilst transferring responsibility to a
body with the appropriate track record and resources to maintain
these defences as well as associated buildings and assets.

Alternative options considered

Retaining council ownership of the land was
considered. The council entered into a
memorandum of understanding to carry out coastal defence work. The
transfer of the land transfers responsibility for this and
investment in assets such as the beach huts to Shoreham Port.
