To approve the execution of a Data Sharing
Agreement between Arun District Council and Aon to facilitate the
secure and lawful sharing of personal data necessary for the
provision of risk management, insurance brokerage, and related
support services.
Reasons for the decision
The agreement is required to enable Aon, as
the Council’s appointed insurance broker, to process personal
and organisational data in order to fulfil its contractual
obligations. This includes the handling of claims, provision of
risk advice, and supporting the Council in maintaining appropriate
insurance cover. The agreement ensures compliance with the UK
General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR) and the Data
Protection Act 2018 by clearly outlining the roles,
responsibilities, and safeguards relating to data sharing between
the parties.
Alternative options considered
Proceeding without a data sharing agreement: Rejected, as this
would not meet the Council’s legal obligations under data
protection legislation and would expose the authority to
significant risk.
Using an alternative broker: Not applicable, as Aon is the
contracted provider.
