Decision

To approve the obtaining of legal advice and, subject to the terms of the lease and legal requirements, agree the early surrender of the leases held by xxx for xx, xx and xx Longford Road and return the properties to Arun District Council's Housing Revenue Account.

Reasons for the decision

The commissioned service operating from xx, xx and xx Longford Road is coming to an end. xxx has requested consideration of an early termination of the lease arrangements, which currently run until 2032. The properties may provide an opportunity for future use as temporary accommodation or for Part 6 housing allocations, subject to any required improvement works. The existing rental income generated by the leases is considered limited and there is no objection from the xxx to the properties returning to council management.

Alternative options considered

• Retain the existing lease arrangements until their contractual expiry in 2032.
• Seek an alternative commissioned provider to occupy the properties under the existing lease arrangements.
• Dispose of the properties rather than return them to Housing Revenue Account management.

These options were not preferred as the ending of the current service presents an opportunity to bring the properties back into direct council use to support housing need.
