Decision

Several new candidate local list assets have been through the assessment process in Barnsley and were recommended for formal adoption/addition to the existing Barnsley Local List. These include:-

·         Former Salvation Army Building, Wellington Street

·         Historic Barnsley Grammar School and Cooper Gallery

·         Beckett Hospital building [built as 'Cooper Nurses Home']

·         Old Wire Mill complex

·         Wharncliffe Musket Range

·         Whitley Romano-British Settlement.

Reasons for the decision

The assets recommended for adoption/ addition to the existing Barnsley Local List were assessed by the local heritage list assessment panel. The assessment was performed using a select criterion process which can be found on the South Yorkshire Local Heritage List. This is to ensure each candidate is assessed equally and has a fair chance being recommended as a local list asset.

Thereafter, Barnsley local planning authority consulted each owner/ occupier, providing a two-week consultation period for comments and objections. There had been no objections or comments within this time.
