Purpose

Authorisation to Release Funds from the Breckland Communities Fund - September 2026

Decision

That the following 2 Breckland Communities Fund awards totalling £1000 are approved:

Garnier Village Hall £500 – The funding will support the reopening of Garnier Hall following essential roof repairs, enabling the hall to re-establish itself as a key community asset for the villages of Eccles, Hargham, Quidenham and Wilby. The project focuses on rebuilding community engagement after a prolonged closure, creating opportunities for regular activities, social events, and wellbeing initiatives that will benefit local residents and help ensure the long-term sustainability of the hall.

Lopham Sip & Social Café £500 – To support The Sip & Social Café which is a volunteer-led monthly community group, operating under the Parish Council, that supports residents aged 55+ from the parish and surrounding villages by providing regular social opportunities to reduce loneliness, combat rural isolation, and improve wellbeing.

Reasons for the decision

To enhance existing provision, which improves community health and wellbeing and aligns to the Inspiring Communities Corporate Plan priorities. These activities aren’t currently available in the local area or easily accessible in a nearby Ward.

Alternative options considered

·         To award the grant funding

·         Not to award the grant funding
