Purpose
Following cabinet approval of the Bedminster
Green framework in 2019, and subsequent further approvals in
November 2021, officers are fulfilling these requirements by
procuring landscaping and subsequent maintenance for the highway
improvement project areas. The cabinet reports authorise the
Executive Director to draw down and spend £13.5m from the
City Regional Sustainable Transport Settlement.

Approval to procure tree and landscape
planting at Bedminster Green highway improvement project area
(Dalby Avenue, Malago Road, Hereford Street, and Whitehouse
Lane).
The contract allows the city council to fulfil the requirements of
the Bedminster Green regeneration framework, using funding awarded
from the City Regions Sustainable Transport Settlement. The new
SuDS planting included in this contract aligns with engineered
planting beds already constructed which are designed to minimise
surface water rain runoff and this helps to reduce strain on the
sewage network and helps with climate resilience. New trees are
planted to compensate for some trees lost in the delivery of new
transport infrastructure, and to provide a net increase in the
number of trees in the area complying with the Bristol Tree
Replacement Standard. New bulbs, a new hedge and wildflower seeding
will enhance the street environment and contribute towards
biodiversity. The work is compliant with a number of local,
regional and national policies.
