Purpose
1. To note the output report produced from
Phase 1 of the Waste and Recycling Task and Finish Group.
2. To consider the options presented by the Task and Finish Group
Report in relation to waste collection methodology and approving
the preferred option.
3. To consider the other recommendations presented by the Task and
Finish group in relation to the long-term recycling methodology,
container refresh and non-standard collections.
Content
The Committee RESOLVED:
1. (Unanimously FOR) Agree to maintain
kerbside sorting as the approach to long term waste collection, as
outlined in the Appendix A2.
2.1. (5 For, 1 against and 3 abstain)
Agree to maintain two-weekly waste collection (black wheelie bins)
with consideration of the additional services including:
- Absorbent Hygiene Product collection
- Lowering of the larger bin capacity
threshold to 6 or above in a household
- Additional fly -tip collection round
- The creation of a community fund
- Additional engagement in areas of greater
deprivation.
- “Container Refresh Campaign”
with the support of an engagement, education and communication
programme to promote recycling, as outlined in Appendix A2.
The additional services are to be considered
subject to appropriate funding and brought back to Committee.
3. (Unanimously FOR) To Agree to
“Container Refresh” capital to update the recycling
containers and amend containers with education campaign.
4. (Unanimously FOR) Agree to
Non-Standard collection service for arterial routes, the city
centre and mix use developments.
5. The Committee noted the consultation
report at Appendix F.
