Purpose
The acquisition is required to construct and
maintain the River Malago Restoration Project. The restoration
works were identified in the Bedminster Green Framework (2019) as
strategic infrastructure required to reduce flood risk to the wider
area and to support the regeneration of Bedminster. The restoration
works will restore historic in-channel heritage features (the
penstock), improve public realm and green spaces, improve habitat
to facilitate biodiversity net gain, and reduce flood risk to the
wider Bedminster area.
Content
Pursuant to delegated powers authorised by
Cabinet on 6 February 2024 relating to the acquisition of land to
enable the delivery of the River Malago Restoration Project.
Authorisation was given to acquire the land to the rear of 13-21
Windmill Hill Business Park, Bartley Street, Bedminster, Bristol
(also known as land to the north of Bedminster Green Plot 3) for
£1.
Alternative options considered
Acquisition of the land is essential, it will
be used to install essential flood mitigation measures and will
enable access to the river for future maintenance. Without the
land, a comprehensive redesign would be required at significant
time and cost to BCC and other development partners.
