January 30, 2026 Cabinet Member Waste, Recycling, Parks, Gardens and Green Open Space (Cabinet member) Approved View on council websiteFull council record
Content
To use the name "Cheltenham Escarpment
National Nature Reserve" in the Natural England
Dedication of Leckhampton Hill as a National Nature
Reserve
Reasons for the decision
To agree a name for the new National Nature
Reserve designation of Leckhampton Hill and Charlton Kings Common.
Natural England has outlined its naming convention governing this
process and the designated name of the NNR site in Cheltenham. The
name of the site and
criteria are set out in the attached report.
Alternative options considered
Leckhampton Hill and Charlton Kings Common.
Rejected as it does not meet the Natural England naming convention
and the site will not benefit from a name that can be identified in
a national context.
