Accept a quotation for the manufacture and
supply of specialist self-closing playground gates
from Easy-Gate Ltd at a value of £14,100 (Ex Vat)

Reasons for the decision

To enable the Council to provide safe,
accessible and well-maintained playgrounds it is necessary to enter
into a contract with a third party to manufacture and supply
specialist selfclosing playground gates. The preferred supply is
the sole manufacture of the gate with high
quality manufacturing, design, ease of maintenance and low-cost
replacement maintenance components. Due to their only being one
supplier, a waiver has been sought as part of this process under
Contract rule 8.1.1 ‘Where the supplies, works or services
are of a unique or
specialised nature or are identical or similar to or compatible
with existing provision so as to render only one or two sources of
supply appropriate.’

Alternative options considered

Several different types and manufacturers of
self-closing playground gates have been tried and tested by the
council over the last few decades. The preferred supply is the sole
manufacture of this gate with high quality manufacturing, design,
ease of maintenance and low-cost
replacement maintenance components. The gates are supplied through
other distributers but it's more cost effective to procure them
