Purpose

1.1 This report seeks approval to submit an
application to the Environment Agency for Grant in Aid (GiA)
funding to deliver accelerated coastal defence works at West Beach,
where existing defences are deteriorating. The proposed works aim
to reduce the risk of defence failure in advance of the Selsey
Coastal Scheme.

RESOLVED
 
That
Cabinet:
 
1.   
Approves the submission of an application to the
Environment Agency for Grant in Aid funding to deliver accelerated
works to the West Beach frontage, via a Business Case Update
Report.
2.   
Approves the procurement and appointment of a
contractor and subsequent construction of the accelerated works,
subject to the securing of full Grant in Aid funding (paras. 4.3
and 4.4).
3.   
Approves that delegated authority be granted to
the Director of Planning and Environment, in consultation with the
Chief Operating Officer and Director of Corporate Services: to
appoint contractors to agree project financial tolerances and to
authorise expenditure of the Grant in Aid funding.
4.   
Notes the current funding uncertainties at this
stage (Para. 4.4 and 7.3).
