It was moved
by Councillor Chopak, seconded by Councillor Towill, and

 
RESOLVED 
that:-
 
1. 
There be a
change in the terminology and that the term “Chairman”
be replaced with “Chair”, and that the following note
be included in the Constitution:
 
“Where
legislation refers to ‘Chairman’, the Council
interprets this as ‘Chair’ for the purposes of equality
and diversity , except
where the statutory
term must be used for legal compliance.”
 
2. 
The
Committee undertakes a review of the Local Government Act 1972 with
a view to considering whether representations should be made to
Government regarding the need to reform and update the use of the
term “Chairman”, and that this matter be added to the
Committee’s Work Programme.
