Purpose
On
26 February 2025, the Cabinet Member for Planning and Economic
Development approved the updated Local Development Scheme (LDS)
2025 to 2028: Agenda for Councillors' Information Bulletin on
Thursday, 27th February, 2025 - Crawley Borough Council. More
information in relation to this is set out within the consideration
report PES/483.
All Local Planning Authorities across England have been required at
short notice by the government to prepare and approve an updated
LDS and publish this and submit it to MHCLG by 6 March.
The LDS is a public document that outlines the local planning
authority's timetable for preparing, reviewing, and consulting on
the Local Plan and other development plan documents associated with
the Local Plan.
The new Crawley LDS 2025 to 2028 updates and replaces the now
outdated timetable set out in the current adopted LDS 2024 to 2027,
which was agreed in June 2024. This had set the timetable for the
adoption of the Crawley Borough Local Plan 2023 to 2040, which took
place in October 2024.
Some minor factual updates and minor amendments are necessary to be
made to the published updated document before it is published in
its final form and submitted to MHCLG by their deadline. Delegated
powers are held by the Head of Planning and Economic Development to
approve these.
Content
Option 2 was chosen as the most appropriate approach. The
changes proposed are minor and factual and will assist in ensuring
the LDS is robust and fit for purpose.
Alternative options considered
Option 1 – To publish the approved LDS
without making factual and minor amendments.
Option 2 – To make factual updates to the LDS to ensure the
version published and submitted to the government is accurate
(Chosen Option).
