Purpose

This Statement of Common Ground (SoCG) between South Downs National Park Authority (SDNPA) and Crawley Borough Council (CBC) has been prepared and agreed in respect of the South Downs National Park Local Plan review. The SoCG seeks to establish the current position of both councils in relation to the respective areas and the Local Plans. As this is a SoCG to support the preparation of a nearby authority’s Local Plan, and reflects the adopted Crawley Borough Local Plan position, it has been signed off by the Head of Service, in accordance with the delegation scheme. The SDNPA and CBC SoCG, June 2026 is attached.

Decision

To approve the South Downs National Park Authority and Crawley Borough Council Statement of Common Ground, June 2026.

Alternative options considered

Option 1 - To not agree the Statement of Common Ground (SoCG). However, an up-to-date SoCG signed by both parties will assist the Planning Inspector in their independent examination of the South Downs National Park Local Plan. Option 2 - To approve the Statement of Common Ground.
