and the Councils Youth
Service goals of raising ambition and aspirations of our young
people. UK

placements for young people, including a sub contracted company who
will manage the right to work checks and payroll for the young
people.
No other provision currently on offer to provide this experience to
young people.
Content
Application made and funding secured to be the
preferred delivery partner for the UK Youth Summer Jobs Programme
in the Doncaster area, confirmation of the successful bid was
received on 07.03.25.
The programme is part of a research project to look at the impact
having a summer job has on young people aged between 16 and 20
years old and reducing their risk of violence. The project is
modelled on a similar project run in America over the last 40
years.
Of the sixty referrals required, thirty of Doncaster’s young
people will be offered a work placement for 5 weeks over the summer
period and will be paid minimum wage for their age group for this.
The 30 not selected will be signposted to other services already
available and will have access to support they require to secure an
EET outcome. The programme will be delivered from March to
September 2025.
This is intended to be a two year project with Doncaster
potentially delivering it again in 2026.
Total Value of this project is £45,430 to be received in 4
stages between March and September.
The funding will be received and the project overseen by UK youth
and will cover costs of staffing, mileage and expenses related to
the positions, a celebration event and venue hire for delivery of
the work preparation week.
In addition, UK Youth are providing a barriers fund for the
participants should they require support with transport costs,
clothing for employment etc. This will be a total of
£4500.
Alternative options considered
The alternative is not to accept the funding
and risk young people not
receiving opportunities that may enhance their long-term career
prospects
