The Mansion House is a Grade 1 Listed Building
and the attached site at Priory Place is Grade 2. It is used by
several teams, including:
Culture Services for open days and events.
• Registrars for civil wedding ceremonies and citizenship
events.
• The Civic Mayor for Council ceremonies and events.
• Tourist information Centre.
• The Friends of the Mansion House aim to promote the history
of the building and support Cultural Heritage providing open days
and events.
• Facilities Management (FM) are responsible for the fabric of
the building and compliance with statutory maintenance.

Alternative options considered
Option 1 - Do nothing – This option is
not feasible. The Mansion is a prestigious, Grade1 building in the
Council’s portfolio and if the capital scheme to carry out
the remedial work is not progressed the building condition will
deteriorate and may become unusable. This may have health and
safety implications for staff and visitors and would have a
negative effect on the Council’s reputation. It will also
impact on any future plans to increase use of the building and
visitor numbers.
Option 2 - Continue undertaking repairs on an ad-hoc basis. This is
not cost effective to continue masking the causal issues and the
level of repairs required cannot be funded through revenue
budgets.
Option 3 - Allocate budget from the Revenue Contribution to the
Capital Programme Reserve to fund the design work and develop
accurate financial projections on the work required so that an
accurate financial estimate can be developed to support the capital
