23241005 - Weekly Living Allowances increase
July 6, 2023 Service Director Childrens Social Care (Other) Approved View on council websiteFull council record
Purpose
Weekly living allowance which is paid to our
young people, has risen nationally from £61.05 per week
(Children’s Social Care currently pay £62.00 per week)
to £67.20 a week. The Council has to increase this weekly
allowance as its part of the Children’s Act 1989 Transitions
Guidance.
Children’s Social Care recommendation is to increase the
allowance to £70.00 per week. The rationale for this is to
support young people who access money from a bank so they can get
the full monies. Having random amounts of pounds and pence when
living on so little is a real barrier and needs to be part of our
recognition of the barriers that exist for our care experienced
young people. This is really important given the cost of the impact
of the cost-ofliving crisis
