CR/647/07/23 - Gifting Legacy PCs to schools
July 17, 2023 Chief Financial Officer & Service Director Finance & Technology (Officer) Approved View on council websiteFull council record
Purpose
We have 487 Dell PCs that have been in storage
since Covid due to our staff being given laptops to work safely
from home. These PCs were the latest corporate desktop model before
Covid arrived and they still have a decent spec. Local schools have
expressed their willingness to re- use these PCs, for security
reasons we need to remove the hard drives. The alternatives are to
scrap the PCs or leave them in storage where they will become
obsolete.
It is anticipated that all the surplus PC's could be allocated to
schools and therefore provide benefits to the Education community
across Doncaster, expressions of interest are detailed in the
attached Officer Decision Record
Content
To gift the pre-Covid legacy PCs to local
schools once the hard drives have been removed. The PCs will first
be assigned to the schools requesting lower numbers of PC, with the
remaining then being split equally by the remaining schools who
have asked for any available.
