Purpose

If a Member of a Local Authority fails to
attend meetings for a period of six consecutive months, he/she
shall cease to be a Member of the Authority unless the failure to
attend is due to a reason approved by the Authority before the
expiry of that six month period.
Due to ill health resulting in surgery in May 2023 and a period of
recouperation Councillor Rob Reid has been unable to attend any
Council meetings since 16th March 2023. His six month absence would
take effect from 16th September 2023.
Under delegated authority, the Monitoring Office has agreed an
extension of absence for a period of three months which will extend
the period within which Councillor Reid needs to attend a meeting
to the 16 December, 2023. He is hopeful he will be able to attend
meetings before the end of this period.

An extension of absence for Councillor Rob
Reid be approved by The Monitoring Officer, for a period of 3
months from 15th September 2023 until 16 December, 2023 as a result
of recent ill health and recovery from surgery.

Alternative options considered

There were no alternatives considered,
however, in the event that the Monitoring Officer did not feel able
to approve the request, an extraordinary meeting of Council would
have had to be called to consider Councillor Reid’s
request.
