Full council record
Purpose

This would help maintain consistency in
service delivery
through maintaining existing staff whist securing additional
resource to meet service demand and developments through the
limited capacity and soon to be reduced required to effectively
support CALDT Carers to access support in real time whilst being
able to plan for future circumstances through more detailed
decisions and plans some of which could delay demand on ASC
delivery in the
longer term. This will ensure carers are responded to and supported
in a timely effective manner. This is still particularly important
post Covid when many carers have been isolated and their health and
wellbeing has been impacted. Health and social care capacity is
still also being impacted by Covid therefore unpaid carers
remain heavily relied upon.
Option 1 is to resource, Carer Support Workers within commissioned
Carers Service for 12 months on a temporary basis to aid the smooth
transition of carers to their service who have traditionally been
supported by DMBC. The posts will be 37 hr per week post (37 hours
x £10.65 per hours x 52 weeks= £20,490.60 plus on
costs. The 3 part time posts will 18.5 hours plus oncosts 10,245.30
this funding will
end at the end of March 2024.
While COVID restrictions have ended the pandemic has placed a huge
strain on carers over the last two years. We know carers may have
not been contacted consistently whilst services faced the
challenges of delivering care and support. As a result, many people
providing care have been left exhausted, socially isolated
and close to burnout. Adding to these considerable pressures,
carers have also taken a financial hit, and seen their health and
wellbeing decline. The emergence of the cost-of-living crisis has
placed increased financial hardship on families across the country,
including in Doncaster adding additional strain to unpaid
carers
who have already been struggling.

Content

To resource Carers Wellbeing Service to
maintain and add to hours within the service in the form of Carer
Support Workers within the commissioned Carers Service for 12
months. This will benefit carers being transferred from internal
teams and to maintain self-referral/ agency referrals to Carers
Wellbeing Service as well as
the proactive community work they undertake when capacity
allows.
This would enable the 2 staff whose contract is about to end to
remain in post for a further 12 months and enable further part-time
hours to be recruited to for 12
months.
