Purpose

Our Occupational Therapy service within Adults
Wellbeing & Culture completed a review of their service
delivery model in 2022.
One of the major objectives of the review was to identify
alternative ways of working in order to provide assessments for the
people of Doncaster in a timelier way. As a result the team
embarked on a new service delivery model which involves the team
making contact with the person within 48 hours of the initial
referral and using strength based approach to assessment.
The team uses telephone and virtual means to identify solutions to
people’s functional difficulties, with the option of
face-to-face clinic and home visit appointments if required. This
new way of working has enabled the team to increase productivity
and reduce the waiting list
from 1538 in September 2022 to 392 in May 2023.

As the new Occupational Therapy service model is now business as
usual, it is expected that the current volume of recommendations
being received will continue throughout 2023/24.
Furthermore, due to increased cost of materials, in–line with
the retail price index forecast, 12.6% increases in costs will be
applied to the schedule of rates that our in-house contractors,
Public Building Maintenance, charge. Therefore, the estimated
expenditure for this period is in excess of the allocated of
£2.2 million budget.
Provision of adaptations for disabled people is demand led,
initiated by recommendations from health care professionals,
serving the needs of disabled people living in public sector
housing.
The Adaptations programme is a continuous cycle providing showers,
stair lifts, extensions etc.to meet the needs of people with
disabilities or those who suffer from chronic illness.
