EE23 0795 - Acceptance of the Fly-Tipping Intervention Grant
April 26, 2023 Service Director of Environment (Officer) Approved View on council websiteFull council record
Purpose
The purpose of the grant is to provide support
to local authorities in England towards expenditure lawfully
incurred or to be incurred by them to implement interventions aimed
at tackling fly-tipping. The scheme aims to provide capital funding
only for projects at known fly-tipping hot-spots that show the
potential for reducing incidence by improving infrastructure,
raising awareness and/or supporting enforcement activity.
After consultation with a number of departments, Doncaster Council
applied for the Fly-Tipping Intervention Grant in January 2023 in a
bid to improve the number of fly-tipping incidents in a specific
area of Hyde Park. The chosen location is the alley located behind
Childers Street which connects to the Eco-Power Stadium. The alley
has a significantly high footfall and is used by both residents and
visitors to the City. There is a significant amount of derelict
land that has now became a dumping ground for fly-tipping which we
aim to tidy up and prevent this from happening. As such, the
decision was taken to make this area the focal point for the grant
with a view to change the behaviours of residents and to improve
the overall appearance of the alley in numerous ways.
We have since been awarded the funds that we applied for and The
Minister of State for the Department for Environment, Food and
Rural Affairs is satisfied that we have met the specified
criteria.
