On February 2020, the Cabinet gave authority
for the Director of Community Development to acquire 58 properties
for this Scheme.
On 15 September 2020 Cabinet authorised the Director of Community
Development to purchase up to 139 properties on the open market, to
be used to provide temporary accommodation. The reason for this
decision is set out in the associated report.
159 Curlew Court, Gurnell Grove, W13 0AH has been identified as a
suitable property which meets the requirements set out in the
relevant report. Colleagues in Finance have been consulted
regarding the proposed acquisition and have advised that it meets
the agreed financial parameters and terms of delegation and there
is sufficient resource available within the agreed funding
arrangements to proceed. This was confirmed in correspondence with
the Finance lead
on 30 June 2023. I have been advised that the valuation in the
attached confidential appendix is an
accurate assessment of the market value of the property given its
specific characteristics and where applicable any leasehold
interest is for a term of at least seventy years.
In considering the proposal to purchase this property I have had
regard to section 208(1) of the Housing Act 1996. This provides
that so far as reasonably practicable a local housing authority
shall in discharging their housing functions under Part 7 of the
Act secure that accommodation is available for the occupation of
the applicant in their
district.
I have also been informed that no officer involved in the proposed
acquisition has any personal interest or connection with the vendor
of the property.
