Reasons for the decision

At Cabinet in June 2025,
Cabinet agreed Chatteris Leisure Centre condition survey works were
a Phase 1 Fenland Inspire! project. The condition of the leisure
centre was assessed and works identified to be delivered by Autumn
2025. Council, in February 2025, agreed a budget for leisure
condition survey works.

A prior review of the facility
highlighted a small number of wear and tear issues following the 13
years that the facility has been open.
The award of this contract as proposed will enable the required
refurbishment works to be completed which in turn will ensure the
facility is fit for purpose for the next decade.

Alternative options considered

Carry out no works and repair
as necessary from time to time once facility is more worn out or
dilapidated. This will put the facility on the same track as the
older leisure centres with the Council avoiding costs but building
up a substantial repair bill in future years. It would also be
contrary to the expectations of Cabinet who authorised the
procurement of the works and the associated budget at their meeting
of 24th February 2025.
