Approval of formal response to
the Local Nature Recovery Strategy (LNRS) Intention to Publish -
Regulation 15 of the Environment (Local Nature Recovery Strategies)
(Procedure) Regulations 2023.
Reasons for the decision
The Cambridgeshire and
Peterborough Combined Authority (CPCA) is preparing a Local Nature
Recovery Strategy (LNRS) for the region, in line with the national
requirement under the Environment Act 2021 for all English areas to
produce a locally led strategy to help reverse the decline in
nature.
The CPCA has been appointed by
Government as the “responsible authority” for this
area. Its role is to lead the process and work collaboratively with
local councils, partners, and landowners to produce a strategy that
is locally relevant, evidence-based and deliverable.
Fenland District Council (FDC),
as a “supporting authority”, has worked proactively
with the CPCA and other partners throughout the development of the
strategy to ensure that Fenland’s priorities and interests
are appropriately reflected.
Under Regulation 12 of the
Environment (Local Nature Recovery Strategies) (Procedure)
Regulations 2023, the draft LNRS was subject to a statutory
consultation. Public consultation commenced on 18 July 2025 for an
eight-week period, following an earlier 28-day consultation for
supporting authorities beginning on 19 June 2025. FDC responded
formally to the supporting-authority consultation, confirming
support for the progression of the draft LNRS while reserving the
right to make further detailed representations during the public
consultation.
Having now reviewed the updated
document prepared following the Regulation 12 consultation, Fenland
District Council is satisfied that the key issues raised in our
earlier response have been appropriately addressed.
As such, Fenland District
Council has no objection to raise under Regulation 15 of the
Environment (Local Nature Recovery Strategies) (Procedure)
Regulations 2023 and is content for the LNRS to proceed to
publication.
