Extension of the current contract for the
collection and housing (7-day statutory period) of stray dogs found
within the Fenland District.
Decision:
Authority was granted to extend
the current contract by a further 2 years commencing 1st
June 2024 to 31st May 2026.
Reasons for the decision
The current contract with
Fenland Stray Dog Services will expire on 31st May
2024.
The 3-year contract, which was
awarded in June 2021, has an option to extend for further 2 years
(to 31st May 2026) if performance against the contract
schedule is satisfactory and offers best value.
The contract has run very
smoothly for the 3-year period with the same provider being in
place for the previous contract period. The contract remains best
value with wider opportunities for the community being
offered.
The current contractor wishes
to continue to provide the service for Fenland and proposes no
increased fees at this time.
As this service is statutory,
Fenland District Council must make this provision and the
recommendations set out within this Decision Notice reflect the
most effective and economic means of achieving that.
Alternative options considered
During the retendering process for this
contract in 2020-21 shared services were explored in
detail with neighbouring authorities however this was ruled out as
the least viable option for Fenland District Council.
The marketplace for such
contracts offers very limited alternative solutions and therefore
there are no alternatives presently, within budget, available to
consider.
