Purpose

To provide details on the outcome from the
statutory consultation for the proposal to amalgamate Saltney Ferry
Primary School and Saltney Wood Memorial Primary School to create a
new 3-11 Primary School for Saltney, and seeks a mandate to proceed
with the proposal to publish a statutory notice to enter into a
formal objection period.

Content

(a)       That Cabinet reviews
the consultation report and provides any commentary for the
proposed amalgamation of Saltney Ferry Primary School and Saltney
Wood Memorial Primary School and the presentation of the
consultation report back to the Portfolio;
 
(b)      
That Cabinet considers the following points as part of its review
of the proposal:

·        
the likely impact on quality and standards in
education,

·        
the likely impact on the community, and

·        
the likely effect of different travelling
arrangements;
 

(c)        That Cabinet
confirms it considers the implementation of the proposal to be the
most appropriate response to meeting the challenges outlined in the
Council’s rationale for school organisational change,
particularly in light of the consultation feedback;
 

(d)       That Cabinet agrees
to issue a statutory notice to commence a 28-day period for
objections noting that during this stage, any stakeholder can lodge
an objection to the proposal and that any objections will be
considered before a final determination takes place; and
 

(e)       That Members of the
Education, Youth & Culture Overview & Scrutiny Committee
and Governors of Schools affected by the proposal be invited to
visit Ysgol Croes Atti Primary School and Argoed High
School.
