To allocate Pride in Place (PiP) grant funding to support the Matson and Robinswood Pride in Place Neighbourhood Board with communications, programme administration/project coordination and secretariat functions. Grants are subject to the terms of the relevant grant agreements, and awarded following an application process, and by agreement of the PiP Board.

Reasons for the decision

The Council has been awarded grant funding by the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government under the Pride in Place Programme for delivery in Matson and Robinswood. A Neighbourhood Board has been established to develop a Pride in Place Plan. The Council invited proposals from local organisations to provide the practical capacity needed for the Board to operate effectively and to support resident participation. Awarding the grants keeps delivery capacity and benefit rooted locally, makes use of trusted community relationships and provides dedicated communications, coordination and secretariat support. This funding can only be spent in ways approved by the board.

Alternative options considered

1.     Do not award the grants. This would leave the Neighbourhood Board without the dedicated capacity required to support its early operation and development of the Pride in Place Plan.

2.     Deliver the functions directly through Council staff. This was not preferred because the fund is intended to build local community capacity and draw on organisations with established neighbourhood relationships.

3.     Commission a single provider for all functions. Separate awards were preferred so that each function could be delivered by an organisation with relevant local knowledge, experience and capacity.
