Purpose

The charity will visit local schools to spread the values of Melvin who was well known for his kindness and selflessness and to spread the values of hope and connection and tolerance amongst children and young people.

The model would develop a Mench Prize for kindness whereby peers and teachers can nominate children and young people.

The grant will provide the start-up costs for the charity which has several prominent trustees on board, including website development, initial advertising and awareness raising, and professional fees covering charity registration.

It is expected that the charity would evolve and extend to adults and including a website and counselling service.

Decision

£10,000 be awarded via a grant to The Jewel Foundation for the startup of the Mench Like Melvin charity that will be set up in honour of Melvin Cravitz who was tragically killed in the Heaton Park synagogue attack in October 2025. The grant period will be 01/05/2025-31/04/2027.
