Purpose

Via funding from UKSPF NEET Stockport recently piloted a Construction Hub Traineeship programme, delivered in partnership with Stockport Virtual School, Stockport Mayoral Development Corporation, Local training provider B4Box and Highfields College PRU. This initiative was designed as a diversionary activity for young people at risk of becoming NEET, particularly over the summer holidays- a period understood to give rise to heightened risks of anti-social behaviour and exploitation. This programme was considered a success, with an outcomes report confirming that the programme contributed to reducing risk factors and increasing positive opportunities for these young people during a critical period.

In 2026, Stockport will deliver two Summer Traineeships- one focused on Construction and one on Holistic Health. Given the success of the construction intervention, Stockport are looking to maximise the funding so it can offer as many cohorts as possible across both construction and health and beauty. Costs to deliver both come to a total of £34,000. Stockport have already identified £17,000 through The One Stockport Construction Hub, which covers half of the required investment. GMCA’s Safer & Stronger Communities directorate will grant fund the remaining £17,000 contribution from its integrated settlement funding (Pathways into Education and Training budget line).
