Purpose

GMCA is responsible for facilitating and administering the Police Appeal Tribunal process for Greater Manchester Police, ensuring it is managed in line with statutory requirements.

In this case, GMCA’s Safer and Stronger Communities Directorate received a Notice of Appeal from a former Greater Manchester Police Inspector, however, before the Tribunal had concluded, GMCA was notified that the former officer had passed away.

This has created uncertainty about whether the appeal can lawfully continue, and legal advice is therefore required to confirm whether it should be withdrawn, discontinued or otherwise progressed in accordance with the relevant statutory framework.

Decision

A payment of up to £3000.00 is approved for a barrister to provide legal advice in relation to a Police Appeal Tribunal involving a former Greater Manchester Police officer.
