Purpose

Following the fatal stabbing of a pupil at St Peter’s RC High School, pupils at the school wanted to create a film that would communicate the life changing and life ending consequences of carrying and using knives to young people across Greater Manchester.

The school worked alongside a range of partners, supported by trusted adults and the families of young people who had lost their lives to knife crime. As the project developed, it strengthened partnership working between the school, Manchester City Council, the Greater Manchester Combined Authority and community leaders, and on 23rd July 2026, the film was premiered at Manchester Metropolitan University.

GMCA VRU wish to support the development and delivery of the film and its premiere, by providing a contribution to Manchester City Council of £1,000.00.

Decision

GMCA contributes £1,000.00 to Manchester City Council to support costs associated with the development and premiere of the Lives Not Knives film, which took place on 23rd July 2026
