Purpose
Greater Manchester is home to the second-largest Jewish community in the United Kingdom, numbering roughly 30,000 to 40,000 people. As commissioners, we’re aware that there are often barriers for members of marginalised communities in accessing mainstream victim support services for domestic abuse and sexual violence. As such, we want to make sure that by-and-for support is available.
GMCA are also aware that there are currently ongoing community tensions and challenges facing Jewish communities in Greater Manchester which further enhances the need for dedicated support.
This funding tops up previous awards of £24,000, and £9,000 to a total of £42,000 which will fully fund 1 X post within Jewish Womens Aid to deliver specialist, trauma informed support and expert advocacy for victims of sexual violence and domestic abuse in GM, acting as a key liaison between victims, statutory agencies, and community partners. The role will also guide victims through the criminal justice process, coordinating legal and wellbeing support, and managing complex or long-term cases.
Decision
£9,000 grant funding be committed to Jewish Womens Aid to top up £33,000 through previous decision notices for 2026/27. This will fund the value of 1 X Sexual Violence /Domestic Abuse support post in Greater Manchester. This award is part of the wider Ministry of Justice Victims of crime grant funding agreements between 1st April 2026 – 31 March 2027 and is an extension of a grant award from last year.
