Council Notes:
1.
That in the Councils most recent resident poll,
crime and anti-social behaviour was cited as the most important
issue facing the borough.
2.
That the 2025/2026 budget consultation highlighted
that respondents cited tackling anti-social behaviour as their
greatest concern.
3.
That this Labour-led Council is proud to be
listening to residents' concerns and taking decisive action to make
Greenwich safer and more secure for everyone who lives and work
here.
4.
That Greenwich Labour is taking action on tackling
knife crime in the borough with the installation of a fourth weapon
surrender bin in Thamesmead on 14 July, specially designed to
handle 'ninja swords'. Since our bins were installed in Abbey Wood,
Eltham and Woolwich and Thamesmead 214 weapons have been taken off
our streets.
Council Believes:
1)
That every resident deserves to feel safe in their
home, on their high street, and in their community.
2)
That all councillors should support this motion so
that we can make our communities and streets safer for
everyone.
Council Resolves to invest in a
comprehensive programme of community safety investments and
measures focused on prevention, education and
enforcement:
1.
Significantly expanding the number of Community
Safety Enforcement Officers from 10 to
18, with enhanced patrol presence in our town centres and targeted
support in problem areas—ensuring a visible, community-first
approach to tackling anti-social behaviour.
2.
Provide 8 new mobile CCTV
units, a 44% increase, and upgrade our
existing infrastructure to expand oversight and support areas
residents have identified as needing greater protection.
3.
Fund 2 police constables and a police data
analyst apprentice, helping to strengthen
our Integrated Enforcement model and deliver smarter, locally
driven policing.
4.
Launch a new education programme for boys and
men in support of ending violence against
women and girls.
5.
Continue our direct engagement with women and
girls to identify hotspot locations and
co-develop solutions that improve safety across the
borough.
