The Original Construction Contract was entered
into by Guildford Borough Council and VolkerFitzpatrick for the
design, construction and maintenance of Ash Road Bridge (now called
Chester Bridge) on 7 July 2023.
This deed of variation is required to amend the Original
Construction Contract to allow for sectional completion with the
original scope of works for the design, construction and
maintenance of the bridge forming section 1 and the additional
level crossing works being added to the scope of works and forming
section 2.

Reasons for the decision

It was not possible to instruct the level
crossing works at the time of the Original Construction Contract as
the arrangements in relation to the level crossing required
planning consent to be obtained and further studies and design
information to be provided by Network Rail Infrastructure Limited
to Guildford Borough Council.
