RELATED ADDITIONS TO EARLIER DECISION (Sept
2025)
1) Following completion of an appropriate procurement exercise and
receipt of relevant quotes for the works; consent to spend the
required amount of SPA/SANG allocated and ring-fenced funds to
implement the works. The value of the works is
£24,750.00
2) Following drafting of an appropriate contract/legal agreement
for the works to implement the Miyawaki project; consent for the
relevant officer(s) to sign the legal agreement.
Information from earlier decision (Sept 2025)
Planting of c5000 trees to create a new area of woodland at the
eastern end of Tyting Farm. The new woodland contributes to
objectives to provide Biodiversity Net Gain at Tyting Farm. The
woodland is planted according to a method known as Miyawaki
planting which results in notably greater survival rates for new
planting but more significantly it vastly accelerates the growth of
the trees. This increases carbon storage but in line with the
primary objective for biodiversity provides a fully functioning
species rich woodland within years rather than centuries. This is
of immense benefit to species including invertebrates and mammals
such as hazel dormice. The new woodland area also provides visual
amenity to the SANG path and more wildlife for public interaction
with nature.
Reasons for the decision
To allow the previously agreed Miyawaki works
to be implemented in accordance with relevant procurement and legal
requirements and for the necessary budget to be released.
Information from the earlier decision Sept 2025 below
The Miyawaki woodland creation enhances the natural environment
including: biodiversity, wildlife habitats and nature recovery. As
well as increasing carbon storage and providing public amenity
benefit for visitors to Tyting Farm.
