Full council record

The Leader made the following
announcements.
The latest on Local Government
Reorganisation in Surrey
Last week, the Government
decided to replace the current 12 Surrey councils with two new
unitary authorities.
The Government's announcement
on Local Government Reorganisation marks a significant moment for
Surrey. While we supported the proposal for three unitary councils
in the county, our priority remains clear - doing what is best for
our residents. We'll continue to work with councils across the
county and our partners to help create new authorities that deliver
for our communities into the future.
We'll keep our residents
updated as Local Government Reorganisation progresses, and the
latest information can also be found on the Surrey LGR
Hub.
North Street Construction
Update
We have been notified of a
24-hour road closure starting on Monday 10 November and lasting
until Friday 12 December. There will be no through route from
Friary Passage to North Street or Phoenix Court for general
traffic. This closure will facilitate work including the
reconstruction of the taxi rank next to McDonald’s, an
adjustment of the kerbline and repaving of the
footpaths.
During this time, access to
Friary Passage will be restricted to deliveries, servicing and
refuse. Access will be closed to food delivery drivers (including
Deliveroo/Uber Eats style mopeds and cyclists). You should all have
received a more detailed email from St Edward on this; however, the
full information and diversion route can also be viewed on the
dedicated website - northstreetregeneration.co.uk
Service of
Remembrance
The nation will commemorate
Remembrance Sunday this weekend and honour the sacrifices made by
our Armed Forces and their families. Our Borough Service of
Remembrance will take place at Holy Trinity Church at 9.45am. This
will be followed by a parade to the Castle Grounds, where we will
hold the two minute silence and lay wreaths at the war
memorials.
On Armistice Day (Tuesday 11
November) a short ceremony will take place outside the
Guildhall. Residents and visitors are welcome to gather from
10.50am on Guildford High Street and observe the two minute silence
at 11am. There are also many other Remembrance events you can join
across our borough.
Update on The Electric
Theatre
We are about to launch a
community survey to ask residents and groups for their views on the
future of The Electric Theatre. We’ll also be running three
pop-up sessions in Guildford to hear directly from local
people.
Our goal is to find a future
that:
·
reflects the needs and ideas of our
community
·
can be effectively maintained for years to
come
·
continues to inspire creativity and the arts in
Guildford.
We want to make sure that any
decision the Council makes is informed by our community, so would
like to hear everyone’s views. Look out for more information
in our newsroom and on our social media channels very
soon.
Festive Fun Day
A reminder that we’ll
once again be stepping into Christmas in Guildford with our Festive
Family Fun Day. This free, family extravaganza will take place in
the town centre on Sunday 16 November from 11am to 4pm.
The event will transform
Guildford into a winter wonderland bursting with joy, music, and
magical moments. Full event listings and updates are available on
the VisitSurrey and
Experience
Guildford websites.
