Contract award to Sprint Group Limited to
install a walk-in freezer to support the operation of the Community
Meals Service. This is funded via the Winter Warmth grant.
The value following a site survey is capped at £30,633.00 +
VAT (£36,759.60 inclusive of VAT).
Reasons for the decision
Two quotations for the walk-in freezer at The
Hive were sought as part of the tender process. We were unable to
source a third.
Sprint Group – preferred supplier
SCCE – provided a quotation
Porkka – unable to provide quotation due to complexity of the
project
As the Community Meals service is expanding, we require an area
that increases the capacity for storage onsite, rather than the
standalone freezers that currently reside there. The reasons for
wanting to use Sprint Group:
•They are able to complete the remedial works to ensure we
still have access to the loft hatch, whilst SCCE have said they
cannot do this.
•Sprint Group are able to disconnect the plumbing to the
existing sink and remove, whilst SCCE have said they cannot do
this.
•Sprint Group are able to install a ramp into the freezer
which is essential to prevent musculoskeletal conditions as we
require the food cages to go into the freezer.
•The fan unit that is required externally is able to be
installed by Sprint Group. SCCE have said we would need a separate
builder to complete these works as part of the project.
•Increased confidence in Sprint Group – they have
supplied project plans and site survey.
Sprint Group have provided the most inclusive quotation for the
elements of works required. For this reason, we believe Sprint
Group actually offer us best value, with minimal disruption to
current services and activities onsite.
Alternative options considered
It was considered to replace the existing
ageing and faulty freezers currently located in the freezer room
with like-for-like freezers, however, the cost would be comparable
and a walk-in freezer allows us to increase the capacity of storage
of meals, whilst supporting other functions of The Hive such as the
community pantry and community fridge initiatives.
