Decision

RESOLVED:

1. To initiate a review of Hackney’s twinning policy and existing twinning relationships, to align them with the Council’s values.
2. To agree, in principle, the formal termination of the 1968 civic twinning agreement and all associated municipal ties with the City of Haifa, Israel, subject to a period of engagement with interested parties and a full equalities impact assessment.
3. To authorise the Mayor of Hackney to write formally to the Mayor of Haifa to seek the views of his municipality on the proposal to terminate the Hackney and Haifa twinning partnership.
4. To agree to create a Twinning working group composed of cross-party members, to review the Council’s twinning policy and to inform the review of existing twinning relationships, in accordance with paragraphs 3.16 and 3.17 of the report.
5. To agree to receive a report at a later meeting of Full Council, to agree a new twinning policy for the Council and make final decisions on Hackney’s existing twinning agreements.
