Decision
 
RESOLVED that Cabinet
approved the award of contract for the residential development at
the former garages site off Catterick Way, Borehamwood subject to
the approval of Part II (Exempt) of the report attached to the
agenda.
 
Reasons for
decision
 
The provision of affordable housing was a key
strategic priority in addressing a range of social, economic, and
spatial challenges within the Borough. This project would deliver 9
social rent flats.
 
The following sets out the core rationale for
the continued delivery and support of affordable homes:
 

a)    
Addressing Local Housing Need -
There is a well-documented shortfall in housing supply,
particularly in affordable tenures. Demand significantly outstrips
availability, contributing to rising housing costs and lengthy
waiting lists for social housing. Delivering affordable homes
enables the Council to meet statutory duties and support those in
greatest housing need.

b)    
Preventing Homelessness and Housing
Instability - Affordable housing provision plays a critical role in
the prevention of homelessness by offering secure and sustainable
accommodation options. It reduces reliance on temporary
accommodation and supports the Council
