The Children and Young People Scrutiny Panel has
responsibility for scrutinising all aspects of decisions, plans and
services provided for children and young people within the borough.
This includes all education and training provision, including Adult
Education, and health and social care provision for children and
young people. The Panel works closely with the Children &
Adult’s Services, Education, Public Health and other service
providers with the aim of helping to improve provision and act as a
‘critical friend’ in terms of service
delivery.
The Children and Young People Scrutiny Panel differs
from other scrutiny panels insofar as it includes statutory
representatives from outside of the Council. These are
three parent governors and two majority faith representatives. The
Panel has also co-opted members of the Youth Council to represent
young people’s views.
The former Education and Training Scrutiny Panel,
responsible for scrutinising the provision, planning, management
and performance of education and training within the borough, was
reconstituted in 2005 to become the Children and Young People
Scrutiny Panel. To view past meetings of the Education and Training
Scrutiny Panel (pre October 2005)
