Council

All Councillors meet together at Council meetings which are normally open to the public. At Council meetings, Councillors decide major policies and set the Budget each year. The Council has to:

adopt and, where necessary, amend the Constitution; adopt the Code of Conduct; agree the major Policy and Budget Framework; appoint the Leader; appointCouncillors to Committees; appoint the Chief Executive   How to ask questions at meetings of the Council Persons living within the Borough of Ipswich are entitled to put questions to their elected representatives at meetings of the full Council. You are permitted to ask a maximum of two questions per meeting and one supplementary question per main question. Supplementary questions must relate to the subject matter of the original question and must not be preceded by a statement. Questions can be put to:

A Member of the Executive; The Chairman of any Committee; The Leader of any Political Group.

Questions must relate to issues for which the Council has responsibility. Questions must be submitted to the Monitoring Officer by no later than 10.00am, two working days before the meeting. Questions must be in writing or by email to: councilquestions@ipswich.gov.uk; Questions must contain:

The name and address of the questioner; The name to whom the question is to be put; And if possible a contact telephone number.
