Purpose

The Maintenance & Contracts service
maintains an asbestos register for the Council’s housing
stock and ensures all properties are surveyed for the presence of
asbestos containing materials, prior to any maintenance work being
carried out on them. Where asbestos must be removed, most often in
the case of major refurbishment work, the work has to be carried
out by a specialist, licensed contractor.
 
The existing contract for asbestos removal is
ending due to the contract value reaching its limit sooner than
expected due to operational demands.

Decision

To enter into a contract for six months with
PA Group Ltd for the sum of £150,000, under the same terms as
the current contract whilst a long-term contract is procured This
decision has been exempted from contract standing orders under
paragraph 3.10.2 due to urgency and a delay would lead
to a loss of service. Consequently, it is in
the best interest of the Council.
 
Reason:
This contract is required so that Maintenance
& Contracts can fulfil its full operational requirements.
