Purpose

Insurance cover for Historic Churches has
historically been included in the corporate insurance cover
provided by our current insurer’s, Zurich. During 2023/24 an
exercise has been undertaken to re-tender for the corporate
insurance contract to run from 1st April 2024. As part of the
tender discussions, the cover for the Historic Churches was removed
from the tender in order to procure a more specialist policy. Due
to the time needed to procure the main insurance tender, there is
insufficient time to procure alternative separate Historic Churches
insurance cover. Our current insurers have quoted £26,661.41
plus insurance premium tax, to provide continued cover from 1st
April 2024 to 31st March 2025, which represents a modest increase
in the 23/24 fee.

Decision

To enter into a 1-year contract with Zurich
Insurance for insurance cover
for the Historic Churches from 1st April 2024,
on the supplier’s terms and conditions, as there is no
reasonable alternative.
 
Reason:
To ensure the Council has suitable insurance
cover in place for the Historic Churches from 1st April
2024.
