Purpose
The Council provides allotment plots across 18
fields across 16 sites and currently subsidises the operation by
£31,450 (2023/24 costs). Allotment plots are set out in
“rods” an imperial measurement equivalent to 16.5 feet
or 5.0292 metres. There are 17,352 rods available in the borough,
rented in groups of 5, 7.5 or 10 rods. The current cost per rod is
£5.45 with a concession rate of £5.05 applying to any
allotment holder who has reached the State Pension age.
Decision
To increase allotment rates and serve the
requisite notice on existing allotment tenants.
Allotment Rents:
1st October 2024 to 31st March 2026
Standard rent: £6.05 per rod
Concessions: £5.57 per rod
Allotment Rents from 1st April 2026 to 31st
March 2027
Standard rent: £6.66 per rod
Concessions: £6.13 per rod
Allotment rents will be increased each year
for the next five years to ensure that no further subsidy is
required over this time period.
Reason:
To ensure that the council is achieving full
cost recovery for allotments.
