Purpose

Following the reinstatement of formal debt recovery action, a review of aged sundry debts was carried out. This review identified £0.065m of aged (non-social care) sundry debt that is deemed irrecoverable under the Statute of Limitations.

This report seeks approval to write off this irrecoverable debt totalling £0.065m to the Council’s bad debt provision.

Decision

The Executive Director (Resources) in consultation with the Cabinet Member for Resources hereby:

i)        Approves the write-off of £0.065m aged Sundry Debt that is deemed irrecoverable under the Statute of Limitations

Alternative options considered

Continuing to pursue the debt was considered and rejected as the debt is no longer legally enforceable, and this would divert resources away from pursuing debt that can be recovered.
